ABOUT

K MAK is the originals project of Australian cellist Kathryn McKee - a distillation of classical, alternative and electro-pop music.

She draws on her experience playing with Kanye West, Eminem, Archie Roach, Guy Sebastian, Vera Blue and Opera Queensland to weave strings, beats, synths and vocals into vivid, emotive artpop

K Mak has featured at the Woodford Folk Festival, the World Science Festival, on the HOTA and Brisbane Powerhouse main stages and at a Tedx Youth Forum.

She was commissioned by Opera Queensland to create a new work for UNESCO's first international Dark Sky Sanctuary in Australia, conducted by Richard Mills AO and performed by Camerata.

K Mak also co-created a new work LUME for the World Science Festival - an exploration of sound, colour and light.

Her visually-curated PLANETARIUM performances repeatedly sell out Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth, and appeared a record-breaking 92 times at the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe.

K Mak has won an Anywhere Festival Award and been nominated for a Q Song Award, the International Songwriting Competition and an Independent Music Award. She's had airplay on community radio stations worldwide, ABC Classic and on KEXP.

She has somehow also featured in the latest Supercheap auto ad, in Baz Lurhmann’s ‘Elvis’, and in Dubai fashion magazine ‘Mojeh’.
